Healthy "TV food"...vegan green crackers

We all know the “problem” of munching a whole pack of crackers or a whole bag of chips while watching TV or a DVD.
Don’t get me wrong here… I like having something to munch on when I’m watching a DVD or TV in the evening. But as we all know too: these chips and crackers are not really healthy choices.

So here my advice:
  • Don’t only have crackers or chips! Prepare some veggies as well. For example I really love crackers with a slice of cucumber.
  • Look for healthier options: Crackers are better than chips and bretzels are better than crackers. Salted popcorn is probably the best choice of all these.

But, surprise surprise…you can make your “TV food” on your own as well. It’s healthy, tasty and it’s super easy to make. YAY!

Here’s my recipe for vegan pumpkin seed oil cracker. (I call them green crackers):

Put 300g of wholegrain flour and one tablespoon of salt in a big bowl. Add in 3 tablespons of flax seeds and 3 tablespoons of poppy seeds and mix well. Pour in 1/3 cup pumpkin seed oil and knead well. Add water while kneading until the whole mass comes together to a ball. Let your dough sit for about 10 minutes in the fridge. Meanwhile you can line two baking trays with baking paper and choose the form of your cookie cutter.
Next roll out your pastry about 2-3mm thick on a floured surface. Then take the cookie cutter of your choice and cut out as many flowers/circles/squares as you can. Put all of them on the baking trays and sprinkle with some more seeds. Afterwards bake them for about 15 minutes at 200°C. Then reduce heat to 150°C and bake for another 15 minutes. Remove from the oven and let them chill on a plate.
DONE!!

My special tip: If you’re no vegan you can add some cheese to your green crackers. As you can see in the pics, I added some camembert.

Enjoy (movie and crackers)
